A private club founded in 1944 at the center of the Town of Jupiter Island, a 2.7-square-mile barrier island of single-family homes between the Atlantic and the Intracoastal in Martin County, with an 18-hole course redesigned by William Diddel in 1959 and a membership process the club does not publish.

What the Jupiter Island Club is
The Jupiter Island Club sits in the middle of the Town of Jupiter Island, with its offices at One Estrada Road and its course at 1 Bunker Hill Road in Hobe Sound 33455. The town’s own history dates the club to 1944, when Joseph and Permelia Reed founded the Island Club and the Jupiter Island Residents Committee with 75 residents on the island. Golf here is older than the club: a Florida golf journal records a course on the island by 1912, and the present 18 holes, par 72, are credited to William Diddel’s 1959 redesign, with later renovation work in the 2000s.
The island itself is a town, incorporated in 1953, with 804 residents at the 2020 census on about 2.7 square miles of land. Census estimates put the housing stock near 680 units. There are no condominium towers and no commercial strip; the land is single-family lots between the beach road and the Intracoastal, with the club, the course and the town hall in the middle. The Reed family’s Hobe Sound Company controlled the island’s land from 1934 until 1996, which is why so much of its character is a matter of recorded restrictions rather than zoning alone.
Here is the point of this page. The club does not publish initiation, dues, categories or how one is admitted; directories describe board approval and sponsorship, and one prints rumored figures that I will not repeat. Buying a house on the island does not come with membership, and a membership does not come with a house. They are two files, and the order in which you open them matters.

Two files
The house, the club and the title, in the right order
Open the house file first. On this island the house is really the lot: whether it fronts the ocean, the Intracoastal or neither, how wide it is, and what the Town of Jupiter Island’s land development regulations allow on it. The town amended its floor area and living space rules by ordinance in recent years, and anything seaward of the state’s Coastal Construction Control Line needs a Florida Department of Environmental Protection permit before a shovel moves. For a buyer planning to build or expand, I get the town’s current standards for that lot and the CCCL position before we talk price.
Then the title. Because the Hobe Sound Company sold the island’s lots over six decades, the recorded restrictions can differ from one parcel to the next, and I have read secondhand accounts that early deeds referenced the club. I do not repeat that as fact. I pull the chain of title and the recorded restrictions on the specific lot you want, and we read what actually runs with the land. That is a title company and attorney question, and I bring them in early rather than late.
Now the club file. The Jupiter Island Club does not publish membership terms, and its website is a member login. Directories describe admission by invitation with board approval and sponsorship. No figure I can find came from the club, so I give you none. What I do is ask the membership office, on your behalf and in your name only when you want me to, what the process is and whether a new island owner is eligible to apply. The answer shapes whether you buy at all, so it comes before the offer, not after.
Last, the water. Oceanfront lots carry dune and beach rules; Intracoastal lots carry dock permits whose length and water depth vary parcel by parcel, and the route to the ocean runs north to the St. Lucie Inlet or south to the Jupiter Inlet with the Bridge Road bascule in between. The Jupiter Island page covers the bridge and the inlets; here I will only say that a dock on a listing is a permit I read, not a feature I take on faith.
