Tequesta Country Club, Tequesta
An ungated 1950s and 1960s neighborhood on the Loxahatchee River in Tequesta 33469, laid out around the member-owned Tequesta Country Club at 201 Country Club Drive, where the community association is voluntary, golf is a separate choice, and three riverfront parks carry a boat ramp and a day dock for residents.
I confirm what the voluntary association does and does not cover, get the club’s current terms in writing, and check the dock, depth and bridge route on every river lot.
What it is
What Tequesta Country Club is
The club came first. Tequesta Country Club opened on December 12, 1957 with an exhibition match that included Arnold Palmer, on a Dick Wilson course set on a ridge of natural white sand. Tom Fazio II redesigned it in 2013, keeping the old Florida character, and the course reopened that November. The club is member-owned, private, and sits at 201 Country Club Drive with about 260 golf and 150 social members by a 2013 trade account.
The neighborhood grew around it through the 1960s and 1970s along Country Club Drive, River Drive, Yacht Club Place and the streets between, with the main fork of the Loxahatchee River on one side and the North Fork on the other. There is no gate. One directory counts about 550 residences; a brokerage page describes most homes at 1,600 to 6,000 square feet with three to five bedrooms, and current asking prices are in the listings on this page, from condominiums to river estates. River Drive is where the water sits: the lots front the main river, and I pull the recent closings there separately.
What makes this neighborhood unusual among club communities is the paperwork. There is no mandatory homeowners association. The Tequesta Country Club Community Association is voluntary, and the golf club is a separate, optional membership. That is good news for the monthly budget and it means the buyer, not a declaration, decides what to belong to.

What is optional
The voluntary association, the optional club and the river
Start with the association, because it is the part buyers get wrong. A brokerage page describes the Tequesta Country Club Community Association as a community association where, unlike an HOA, membership is voluntary, with dues billed annually and spent on community improvements. The association files as a small nonprofit, reporting about $101,000 in revenue and $84,000 in expenses for 2024, and listings credit it with the three riverfront parks, the boat ramp and the day dock, along with recent landscape work and a new ramp. So the dues buy the parks and the ramp, and they are a choice.
The club is the second choice. Golf is optional; a brokerage page lists full golf and social initiation and dues by age tier, and says non-resident memberships exist. Those figures sit on a page whose price data is dated 2023. A pricing site writing in November 2025 prints much higher numbers, with a waitlist and a half-initiation limited-access option, and calls its own numbers market-observed rather than a club sheet. A club directory guesses higher still. The spread tells you the only reliable figure is the one the membership office hands you, and that is the one I request.
Then the river, which is where a Tequesta Country Club budget can double. River Drive lots front the main Loxahatchee with private docks: the 2025 sale at 103 River Drive carried a covered dock, two floating docks and a 24,000-pound lift on 90 feet of frontage. From the neighborhood the route east to the Jupiter Inlet passes the fixed Alternate A1A bridge, about 26 feet of air at mean high water by FDOT, then the FEC railroad bridge and the US 1 bridge, both of which open. A boat with a tower or a mast is the case to check. For anyone else, the ramp and the day dock through the voluntary association may be all the waterfront you need, and the dues are voluntary.
Last, the condominiums and townhomes inside the neighborhood carry their own associations with their own budgets and, where a building is three stories or more, Florida’s inspection and reserve rules. I treat those as a separate file from the voluntary association.
For the specific home
What I check before you buy in Tequesta Country Club
Nothing here is mandatory, which means the questions are about what you choose and what it costs.
- Whether the voluntary association’s dues are current on the property, what the dues cover, and how ramp and day-dock access is granted.
- The club’s current membership categories, initiation, dues, assessments, refund terms and waitlist, in writing from the membership office.
- For a condominium or townhome: its own declaration, budget, reserves, insurance and any inspection or reserve study requirement.
- On River Drive or the North Fork: the permit file for the dock and wall, the lift’s rating, a low-water sounding and the three spans east measured against your boat.
- Leasing, pet and exterior rules at whatever layer applies to the property.
- Flood zone, elevation certificate and insurance quotes on a river lot, and the estoppel where there is one.

Questions
Questions Buyers Ask About Tequesta Country Club
Is there a mandatory HOA in Tequesta Country Club?
No. The Tequesta Country Club Community Association is voluntary, with dues billed annually, and funds the three riverfront parks, the boat ramp and the day dock. Condominiums and townhomes inside the neighborhood have their own associations.
Do I have to join the golf club?
No. Golf and social memberships are optional and separate from the deed. The club is member-owned and does not publish its prices; I request the current terms in writing.
What does membership cost?
A brokerage page and a November 2025 pricing site print initiation and dues that do not agree, and the pricing site mentions a waitlist. The spread is the point; ask me for the club’s current fee sheet by tier.
Can I keep a boat?
River lots have private docks; the 2025 sale on River Drive had a covered dock and a 24,000-pound lift on 90 feet of frontage. Everyone else can use the ramp and day dock through the voluntary association. The route to the inlet passes one fixed bridge at about 26 feet and two that open.
How old are the homes?
The club opened in 1957 and the neighborhood filled in through the 1960s and 1970s; listings show 1968 and 1978 build years, and many homes have been rebuilt or renovated. About 550 residences by one directory count.
How fast do homes sell?
The live market table above shows the last twelve months of closed sales, the median price and price per square foot. River Drive can pull the averages, so I give you interior and riverfront closings separately.
