Overview

About Brazilian Court

The Brazilian Court opened on New Year’s Day in 1926. Two New York investors, Joseph D’Esterre and Stanley Paschal, assembled the site in 1924 and 1925 and hired Rosario Candela, who planned the Mediterranean-style building around a courtyard rather than the street.

Today the property is recorded as the Brazilian Court Hotel and Condominium. The county roll lists 83 parcels at 301 Australian Avenue and codes the units as hotel, so it counts no residential units here; hotel operations and private residences share the same building. That shapes how a unit is owned, used and rented, so we read the condominium documents and any hotel program terms with you for a specific unit.

It began as an apartment hotel with small kitchens. After Obadon Hotels bought it in 2003, the kitchenettes were removed and the building was renovated, with a restaurant from chef Daniel Boulud added on the ground floor.

It sits a block north of Worth Avenue between Australian and Brazilian Avenues, a short walk to the Society of the Four Arts and the shops of the town’s center.
