Overview
About Old Floresta
Old Floresta is where Addison Mizner housed his company. In October 1925 he announced houses for the officers of his development company and for his brother, the Reverend Henry Mizner, and a New York contractor won the contract for 29 of them.
The boom ended in 1926 and the Mizner Development Corporation collapsed before the houses were finished. The Chicago partners who had sold Mizner the land, led by Hermann V. von Holst, foreclosed, finished the houses, proposed new street names and suggested the name Floresta, Spanish for a delightful rural place, according to the state historical marker.
The houses are Spanish in style, with rough stucco walls, wrought iron balconies and barrel tile roofs, on narrow tree-lined streets. The county roll dates 27 houses on the Floresta Addition to Boca Raton plat to the 1920s, among newer homes built since. Two Boca Raton houses on the National Register of Historic Places are here: the Fred C. Aiken House at 801 Hibiscus Street and the Lavender House.
It is inside the City of Boca Raton, in the 33486 ZIP. Because it is a local historic district, we confirm with the city what review applies before any exterior work on a specific house.
