Overview

About 400 South Ocean

400 South Ocean, known in town as the 400 Building, was designed by Edward Durell Stone, the architect of the Kennedy Center. The Historical Society of Palm Beach County records that it began as a rental project and opened instead as the first condominium in Palm Beach County.

The building rises six stories around an open-air central courtyard. It was planned with 64 apartments; the county roll now lists 58 residences, all dated 1965, so some units have been combined over the years. Most run from about 1,700 to 2,400 square feet, with penthouses on the roof level.

In 2000 the owners began a major restoration, with design work by Stone’s sons, the architect Hicks Stone and the landscape architect Edward Durell Stone Jr. The Town of Palm Beach later designated the building a landmark, which adds town review to exterior changes.

The building stands on South Ocean Boulevard a few blocks north of Worth Avenue, next to Dunster House and 330 South Ocean, with the shops of Worth Avenue and the Society of the Four Arts a walk away.

  • After you sign: the declaration, articles, bylaws, rules, budget and reserves, with the cancellation window Florida law sets once you receive them
