Overview

About Golden Gate

Golden Gate began as a boom-time promise. Henry Sewall platted the land as Port Sewall in 1911, and in 1925 the Golden Gate Development Company replatted it into about 200 blocks and built a sales office that still stands on SE Dixie Highway.

The boom collapsed before the lots sold, and most of the neighborhood was built after World War II as single-family homes and duplexes. The county roll counts 719 residential parcels, with years built from the 1920s to 2025 and a median of 1977.

Martin County adopted the Golden Gate Community Redevelopment Plan on September 24, 2002, and the community redevelopment area continues to fund streets, drainage and public spaces here. The 1925 Golden Gate Building at SE Dixie Highway and SE Delmar Street was restored by the county and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.

It is in unincorporated Martin County with a Stuart address, mostly in the 34997 ZIP, between the FEC railroad and the St. Lucie River side of SE Dixie Highway, about two and a half miles south of downtown Stuart according to the county plan.

Documents to Review Before Closing

  • Before you sign: the association disclosure summary and the parcel’s tax bill, including any non-ad valorem lines
