Overview
A Town at the Tip of the Island
Jupiter Inlet Colony fills the south tip of Jupiter Island, where the island meets the Jupiter Inlet, across the water from the lighthouse.
The whole town is one 1950s plan. Charlie Martyn bought 86 acres at the end of the island in 1953, laid out ocean, river and interior lots, and the colony became a town in 1959. It is still a town of single-family homes on a short loop of streets: Ocean Drive along the beach, Lighthouse Drive around the inlet and the Intracoastal side, and Colony Road, Beacon Lane, Shelter Lane, Treasure Place, Cove Place and Pirates Place in between. Beach Road runs north from the town toward Tequesta and Jupiter Island.
Because there are so few homes, there is no condominium market and no golf course here, and only a handful of sales in a typical year. Ocean lots, inlet and Intracoastal lots, and interior lots each trade on their own terms, and the original 1950s and 1960s houses sit beside homes built in the last few years. The town has its own commission, police, code of ordinances and building department, separate from Tequesta and from Jupiter.
What we watch for buyers here: the flood zone and elevation of the lot and the age of the house; seawall, dock and lift condition on the inlet and Intracoastal side; coastal construction rules on the ocean lots; and the town’s permit history for any renovation. The sections below cover each part of the town.

History
A Short History of Jupiter Inlet Colony
Jupiter Inlet Colony is land the inlet made: sand pumped from the channel widened the tip of the island, and a 1950s plan turned it into a town.
- 1860
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was lit on July 10, 1860, on the bluff across the inlet from where the town now stands.
- 1921
The Florida Legislature created the Jupiter Inlet District to keep the inlet and a navigable channel open to the ocean.
- 1922
The district cut a channel through the sand barrier and built north and south jetties. Sand dredged from the inlet over the years was pumped into the marsh north of it, widening the south tip of Jupiter Island.
- 1953
Charles “Charlie” Martyn found the site over Memorial Day weekend and persuaded owner John Hay Whitney to sell him 86 acres at the tip of the island.
- 1958
The colony was platted, with ocean, river and interior lots.
- 1959
Jupiter Inlet Colony was incorporated as its own municipality, separate from Tequesta and Jupiter.
- 1964
Martyn sold his remaining holdings at the tip of the island, where the Jupiter Inlet Beach Club, a private membership club, sits today on Ocean Drive.
- 1985
The Northwest Fork of the Loxahatchee, which reaches the ocean through the Jupiter Inlet, became Florida’s first National Wild and Scenic River.

Your Next Chapter Starts With a Conversation
Every move starts a new chapter: a first home, more room, a place on the water, a winter home that becomes year-round. That deserves more than a search bar.
So we start with a conversation. What should the next few years look like? What can you not give up? I listen, then shape the search around your answers, so you only see places that fit and know what each one costs to own.
From there, my team and I handle the details: visits around your schedule, documents read before you ask, questions answered the same day.
“From start to finish, Monika was on top of every detail… I would use Monika again in a heartbeat!”
“Monika made the process not only easy for us, but enjoyable and stress free.”
“Monika sold the house in 1 day! What else can you ask for! Premium service in every way.”
“We were from out of state and only had 2 days to look at homes. Monika was able to orient us to the area very quickly.”
“She was excellent with follow through and proved to be absolutely knowledgeable and efficient.”
“It’s a pleasure to work with her and I know I can count on her to answer all my questions and concerns.”
Questions
Questions Buyers Ask About Jupiter Inlet Colony
What does a home in Jupiter Inlet Colony cost?
In the 12 months through October 2026, the median Jupiter Inlet Colony home sold for $7,400,000, about $1,989 per square foot, across 13 sales. The middle 80% sold between $2,800,000 and $15,250,000. With so few sales, the setting matters more than the median: interior lots, inlet and Intracoastal lots with docks, and ocean lots each trade on their own terms. The live listings on this page show current asking prices.
Is Jupiter Inlet Colony part of Tequesta or Jupiter?
No. Jupiter Inlet Colony is its own town, incorporated in 1959, with its own commission, police and building department. It shares the 33469 zip code with Tequesta, and mail often reads Jupiter or Tequesta, so we confirm the jurisdiction from the county property record for every address.
Are there condominiums in Jupiter Inlet Colony?
No. The town is single-family homes. For condominiums near the inlet, we look across the Intracoastal in Tequesta and Jupiter, or north along Beach Road.
Can I keep a boat in Jupiter Inlet Colony?
Yes, on the inlet and Intracoastal lots along Lighthouse Drive, many of which have private docks a short run from the Jupiter Inlet. We check the seawall, the dock and lift permits, and the depth at the dock against your boat.
How often do homes come up for sale here?
Not often. With about 240 homes, the town sees only a handful of sales in a typical year. We watch new listings daily and can set up an alert for the town so you see a new listing the day it goes live.
Can I rebuild or renovate an older house?
Many homes have been rebuilt, and the town has its own code of ordinances and zoning. On the ocean lots, the state coastal construction line also applies. We pull the permit history and the zoning rules for the lot, and recommend speaking with the town and an architect if a rebuild is the plan.
What should I know about flood insurance in Jupiter Inlet Colony?
The town is low and surrounded by water on three sides, and flood zones change from lot to lot. We get the flood zone and an elevation certificate for the address and request wind and flood quotes during the inspection period, so the carrying cost is known before you close.
How far is Jupiter Inlet Colony from the airport?
President Donald J. Trump International Airport, formerly Palm Beach International, is about 30 minutes south on I-95. Fort Lauderdale is about 80 minutes, and Miami 90 minutes to two hours depending on traffic.

For homeowners’ association communities, review the disclosure summary and governing documents required by Chapter 720, Florida Statutes, before signing. Nothing on this page is an offer to sell, or a solicitation of an offer to buy, any property in any state where the offering has not been registered or exempted as required, including New York and New Jersey.
