Overview
The Mainland Side of the Sound
Hobe Sound is the stretch of Martin County along the Intracoastal between Port Salerno and Jonathan Dickinson State Park, with Jupiter Island across the water and the Atlantic beyond it.
The town center is small: a few blocks of shops and restaurants along Dixie Highway and Bridge Road, the Florida East Coast tracks beside them, and the drawbridge on Bridge Road that carries you over to the beach on Jupiter Island. Around it are the older streets of the 1920s Olympia plan, still named for Greek gods, and long-established neighborhoods such as Zeus Park and Banner Lake. Toward the water, Loblolly sits on the Intracoastal with its marina, and single-family streets such as Jupiter Narrows and Osprey Cove run close to the waterway.
West of US 1 the land opens up. Golf communities such as Hobe Sound Golf Club, Lost Lake and Heritage Ridge sit among pine flatwoods, and farther out are the private clubs, the Medalist, McArthur and Atlantic Fields among them, along with the polo grounds and acreage off Bridge Road. Public land surrounds much of it: Jonathan Dickinson State Park to the south, the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge on both sides of the water, and Seabranch Preserve to the north.
One thing to know early: Hobe Sound is not a town. It is unincorporated Martin County, so the county sets the taxes, the permits and the building rules, and the 33455 zip code also covers the separate Town of Jupiter Island. What we watch for buyers here: which jurisdiction the parcel is in, how each club handles membership, the flood zone and elevation near the water, dock permits and the bridge between the dock and the inlet, and the age and reserves of the townhome and condominium associations. The community guides cover those one community at a time.

History
A Short History of Hobe Sound
Hobe Sound takes its name from a village that stood here long before Florida had counties. A shipwreck, a Spanish grant, a railroad and a film-town boom all left marks on the map that are still there.
- Before 1700
The Jobe (Jaega) people had a village on this stretch of coast; Spanish records rendered its name as Hobe, which the community and the sound still carry.
- 1696
Jonathan Dickinson’s party was shipwrecked nearby. His journal is one of the earliest English accounts of this coast, and the state park at the south end of Hobe Sound carries his name.
- 1815
Spain granted Eusebio Gomez about 12,000 acres here; in 1821 some 8,000 acres of it, Jupiter Island included, were sold to Joseph Delespine.
- Early 1900s
Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway passed through Hobe Sound, bringing jobs and visitors; the tracks still run beside the town center.
- 1925
In the land boom the Olympia Improvement Corporation planned a Greek-themed film town, renamed the community Picture City and named its streets for Greek gods. The Olympia School opened that October and taught classes until 1962.
- 1928
The Okeechobee hurricane ended the boom, and the name Hobe Sound came back. The Picture City street names and streetlight posts stayed.
- 1934
Joseph V. Reed bought the Hobe Sound Company, which held the land on Jupiter Island; the Reed interests held it until 1996.
- 1942
The Army opened Camp Murphy, a radar training school, at the south end of Hobe Sound. After the war the land became Jonathan Dickinson State Park, which opened in 1950.
- 1969
The Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge was established on September 30, 1969, protecting beach on Jupiter Island and scrub on the mainland.
- 1992
Land once planned as a golf community became Seabranch Preserve State Park, bought by the state with Martin County in 1991.

Your Next Chapter Starts With a Conversation
Every move starts a new chapter: a first home, more room, a place on the water, a winter home that becomes year-round. That deserves more than a search bar.
So we start with a conversation. What should the next few years look like? What can you not give up? I listen, then shape the search around your answers, so you only see places that fit and know what each one costs to own.
From there, my team and I handle the details: visits around your schedule, documents read before you ask, questions answered the same day.
“From start to finish, Monika was on top of every detail… I would use Monika again in a heartbeat!”
“Monika made the process not only easy for us, but enjoyable and stress free.”
“Monika sold the house in 1 day! What else can you ask for! Premium service in every way.”
“We were from out of state and only had 2 days to look at homes. Monika was able to orient us to the area very quickly.”
“She was excellent with follow through and proved to be absolutely knowledgeable and efficient.”
“It’s a pleasure to work with her and I know I can count on her to answer all my questions and concerns.”
Questions
Questions Buyers Ask About Hobe Sound
What does a home in Hobe Sound cost?
In the 12 months through {THROUGH}, the median Hobe Sound home sold for {MEDIAN}, about {PPSF} per square foot, across {SALES} sales. The middle 80% sold between {P10} and {P90}: townhomes and villas at the entry point, established single-family streets in the middle, and club and waterfront homes at the top. The live listings on this page show current asking prices.
Is Hobe Sound a town?
No. Hobe Sound is an unincorporated community governed by Martin County, so the county sets the tax rate, the permits and the building rules. The Town of Jupiter Island, across the Intracoastal, is a separate municipality that shares the 33455 zip code. We confirm the jurisdiction from the county property record for every address.
Do I have to join a club to live in Hobe Sound?
No. Many Hobe Sound neighborhoods have no club at all. Where there is one, the terms differ: Loblolly is member-owned and residents may join or not, several clubs are private by invitation, and some golf clubs, McArthur among them, have no homes attached. None of them publishes its fees, so we request the current terms in writing for any home you are considering.
Can I keep a boat in Hobe Sound?
Yes. Homes along the Intracoastal and Loblolly’s marina have slips, and the way out to the ocean is the St. Lucie Inlet to the north or the Jupiter Inlet to the south. The Hobe Sound drawbridge on Bridge Road opens on request, so we check its clearance, the depth at the slip and the run to each inlet against your boat.
How tall can buildings be in Hobe Sound?
Martin County’s Comprehensive Plan caps buildings at four stories and 40 feet, except as its land development rules provide. That is why Hobe Sound has no high-rise buildings; the condominiums and townhomes here are low-rise.
How far is Hobe Sound from the airport?
President Donald J. Trump International Airport, formerly Palm Beach International, is about 44 minutes south on I-95. Witham Field, Martin County’s general aviation airport in Stuart, is about 19 minutes north, and Fort Lauderdale about 90 minutes depending on traffic.
Can I rent out a home or townhome in Hobe Sound?
Rental rules are set by each community’s documents: the minimum lease, how many leases a year and whether the association approves tenants. Club communities often add their own rules on renters using the club. We read the declaration and the club rules before you count on rental income.
What should I know about flood insurance in Hobe Sound?
Flood zones change from street to street, close to the Intracoastal most of all. We get the flood zone and an elevation certificate for the address and request wind and flood quotes during the inspection period, so the carrying cost is known before you close.
